about

To understand the message and inspiration of this song is to understand my work with at-risk youth.  I have had the honor to work with inner-city teenagers over the last 25 years in both San Diego and Honolulu with the non-profit Young Life.  One of the hardest parts of my work is having to bury many of my young friends.  I have lost over 40 students to the streets and I love each of them as if they were my own.  This song is not only addressing gang violence plaguing our city streets but this song also address each of our hearts.

Chorus Lyrics:
When we gonna start loving each other?
When we gonna stop fighting our sisters and brothers?

My heart and prayer is we all can love everyone we come in contact with more deeply.  Love is always the answer.  I hope this song touches your heart as we honor those that were taken much too soon.

I asked Jonah Jaxon aka "Big Mox" to be the feature on this song not only because of his amazing talent as a singer and MC but also because of his heart for our at-risk youth as well.  He runs a non-profit called T-Shirt Theather that does amazing work in our Hawaiian islands.  Mahalo to Jonah and the nine other musicians listed below that blessed this song with their heart and talent as well as our artist and engineers.

lyrics

When We Gonna Start? (feat. Jonah Jaxon)

Verse 1
Out in the streets the youth are restless (Yea, yea, yea)
Seems like everyday there is nothing but violence
I see, i see, fighting for colors and housings
and fighting for crews, (Yea, yea, yea)
When did it start and when, when will it be through?

Chorus
When we gonna start loving each other?
When we gonna stop fighting our sisters and brothers?
When we gonna start loving each other?
When we gonna stop fighting our sisters and brothers?

Verse 2
Doing more of the same
expecting different results is insanity
808 scraps, we had enough of this crap
Pride is the root for violence too grow, to grow

Chorus
When we gonna start loving each other?
When we gonna stop fighting our sisters and brothers?
When we gonna start loving each other?
When we gonna stop fighting our sisters and brothers?

Bridge
Robbing and a stabbing, said a looting and a shooting,
said a fussing and a fighting everyday
Robbing and a stabbing, said a looting and a shooting,
said a fussing and a fighting everyday
Live by the sword, we gonna die by the sword
Live by the gun we gonna die by the gun
So throw down your arms and come. Throw down your guns and come
So throw down your arms and come. Throw down your guns and come

Verse 3
To the Prince of Peace
Lay your head upon his chest
And He’ll give, He’ll give yes He’ll give you rest
He’s not afraid of our junk, just come as you are
You know the journeys been long but the Lord he ain’t far

Chorus
When we gonna start loving each other?
When we gonna stop fighting our sisters and brothers?
When we gonna start loving each other?
When we gonna stop fighting our sisters and brothers?

Outro

Can we take some time to relate on?
What you care about in relation
Too much strife and retaliation
Still never seems to make it right
How can we make this right?
But who has done the wrong?
Canʻt take away the tears
shed at night when youʻre alone
Prayer in this song
Youʻll make a bond
So we can carry on

Love, Love, Love. Love is what we need!
Nuff of the violence, nuff of the hate
We nafe need fe retaliate
An eye for an eye make the whole world blind
Jah, Jah Love for all mankind
A Love, Love, Love. Love is what we need! Ha!
Love, Love, Love. Love is what we need!
Love, Love, Love. Love is what we need! Ha!
